Eisley
The Valley
Equal Vision Records
Release Date: March 1, 2011
-Veteran familial Texas-outfit Eisley is releasing their third full-length album, The Valley, on March 1, 2011 on Equal Vision Records. This is the band’s first album on the Albany, New York-based label after spending seven years on Reprise Records.
-The opening track, album namesake “The Valley,” kicks off with singer Stacy DuPree’s vocals over strings before launching into the instrumentation. This melodic track features DuPree’s dreamy voice paired neatly with layered piano that adds character to the song.
-“Watch It Die” is a melodic pop ballad, which also features the prominent use of a piano. The background clapping and overall tone of the track sounds reminiscent of Keane’s first record, but with a twist. A cool violin adds an element to the middle eight of the track that adds emotion to the song’s lyrics.
-Chauntelle DuPree's guitar strumming opens up “Sad” and gives the song a dark tone. The emotion of Stacy’s lyrics combined the indie-blues feel of the instrumentation. A cool slide guitar solo towards the end of the song accentuates the vibe that lyrics sum of a jilted lover.
Although they are starting anew on an indie label, Eisley has retained the same sound that made the band popular in the first place. With more complex instrumentation, mixed with the pop sensibility of the family DuPree, the band proves that independence from the major label machine is a good thing for them. - filtermagazine.com
